Services

Our comprehensive program is based on 3 guiding principles:

  • Young people are most productive in a culture of high expectations built on positive, productive relationships with adults and with each other.
  • Young people develop self-motivation and acquire the tools for success when engaged in their own learning process.
  • First Graduate will be most successful in achieving its mission by working together with families, schools, volunteers, other youth development agencies, and donors who are committed to the education of San Francisco's young people.

First Graduate addresses these principles through a complementary set of services—family engagement, academic support, mentoring, school counseling and college support—that give students the skills and confidence necessary to become the first in their families to graduate from college.

First Graduate may be the most sustained youth program in operation, making a 10-year commitment to each student. In the first five years, students receive an average of 500 hours of comprehensive programming per year.
