One of the best parts about working in Social Media is the fast-paced and highly social environment that surrounds the whole atmosphere around communication. I enjoy the vitality and zest that it brings to many companies. Social Media allows so many people from different walks of life to communicate from around the world in a press of a button.

As I entered the Social Media Week Conference in New York City on a cold winter day, I was immediately warmed up by the many inviting smiles that waited at the entrance. There was so much movement! People were lining up to get to many panels and discussions surrounding the diverse ways in which Social Media could be used. May it be for companies, schools, or even entertainment channels, everyone was there.

There were many events that I was interested in attending, but I knew that I had to pick a couple of them in order to learn even more than before from my internship with First Graduate® and Linked In. I thought it was a great idea to attend panels of speakers to learn more about how businesses use Social Media. A panel of marketing experts filled us in on how to establish better relationships with their customers. The main ingredient was to have a team of people who build relationships with their clients through help stations on social media, so that their customers don’t ever feel left in the dark. And I also got to speak some speakers about content creation and how to not get stuck on creating content for followers.

One of the best parts was when I was able to establish a connection with a woman whose company centers on anti-bullying campaign and I am currently on her social media team. It is incredible to me how quickly everything works and takes place.

Overall, it was a great experience because I got to network with people who also are able to help me in my exploration of social media. I was overcome by joy and felt a sense of community from people. Every update I saw on Twitter and every conversation I had at the conference helped me see how social media is leaving a positive impact on the world. Social Media Week taught me that no matter how complex our lives get, we could always take a little time out of our day to re-connect and bring our stories to life.

Saying “no” to hate and racism

Dear Friends, First Graduate® has been active on Twitter because we believed that the platform was a good way to connect with our community–our students, our donors, our partners, and our volunteers. It has become clear lately that hate, racism, and sanctioned disinformation endanger the lives of people everywhere and we can not continue legitimizing

Another trauma inflicted on young people

Children and their families need to believe that school is a safe haven. We deplore the violence that has become all too commonplace in schools, and our hearts ache for the young people and adults targeted at Rudsdale Newcomer High School in Oakland. Violence anywhere is abhorrent. The prevalence of guns as a means to
